Prelex surgery

Are you 45 years of age, wearing reading glasses and having issues looking at distant objects? Do you have a problem with focusing on all distances and your glasses are irritating you? Do you want to get rid of them permanently? Then, the PRELEX operation (PREsbyobic Lens EXchange) is intended for you. It is a safe replacement of the intraocular lens for patients with reduced ability to accommodate (close focus) and replacement of the lens with an artificial multifocal intraocular lens, which allows high-quality vision on close proximity and so-called mid-distance (computer work). The method, however, is not suitable for every patient – it depends on dioptric defect, associated eye diseases as well as on type of patient‘s job placement. The patient’s suitability for this surgical method must be decided by the ophthalmologist.

Prelex surgery is safe, accurate and painless. It is performed in local anesthesia via a small corneal incision (2.2 mm) when a lens is aspirated by vacuum and ultrasound – for that, we use our CENTURION VISION SYSTEM (the latest generation of phaco appliance) and then implanting a new acrylic, multifocal lens. The entire procedure takes about 10 minutes. After a week from the operation of the first eye, the operation of the second eye is carried out. The postoperative regimen only requires a ban on swimming in public pools (due to risk of infection) and carrying out extremely demanding physical activity for about 10 to 14 days. You can return to normal daytime activities on the second postoperative day. The vision is excellent already on the second day after surgery, and its quality is further enhanced by the neuroadaptation process up to 3 months after surgery.

Advantages of the Prelex method:

  • Perfect vision on all distances without glasses
  • permanent correction of a dioptric issue
  • getting rid of a cataract risk permanently.
